Msstate Academic Calendar 2023 – STARKVILLE, Miss. – About 153 Mississippi State University graduates are ready to do great things in their lives and help shape the 21st century, MSU President Mark E. Keenum said at the commencement ceremonies.
Keenum noted the challenges the students overcame to earn their degrees and also emphasized the graduates' ability to impact their communities with the knowledge and attitudes they learned while pursuing higher education.

"You persevered, you moved forward and you stayed true to your dream," Keenum said at MSU's May 12 ceremony at the MSU Riley Center. "You're ready for this next step in your life. You're ready for graduate school, medical school, law school, or starting that new job and career. Earning this degree will give you many opportunities to grow and advance your career . . .

"You're a product of this 21st century," Keenum added. "In the next ten years, you will see and experience incredible things. This is your century and we hope you will do great things in the future as a Mississippi State Bulldog.
Keenum, a three-time graduate of MSU with a degree in agriculture, was the speaker at the spring commencement ceremonies. The former secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture led the university to unprecedented heights, and his interest in international food security strengthened the university's role in the world's economic development. He led MSU to record growth in enrollment, capital improvements and fundraising.
"We all depend on other people to help us on our journey through life," Keenum said. "As you move forward in this world, you'll realize it's better. With your core values of honesty, hard work and respect for everyone, and your degree from Mississippi State, there's nothing you can't imagine.

Associate Vice President and Head of Campus Terry Dale Cruse applauded the graduates and said the Class of 2022 is one of the largest in the history of the local campus, including the number of future teachers.
MSU's spring 2022 graduating class of 153 includes 35 honor graduates and seven Riley Scholars. Riley Scholars graduates include Montana Fason of Collinsville, Chloe Gavin of Quitman, Tricia LaBiche of , Caelan Martin of Philadelphia, Riley Oubre of Newton, Anniston Pope and Ashley Yudt of Bailey. Oubre also earned the distinction of being named a Stephen D. Lee Scholar for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average throughout his college career.STARKVILLE, Miss.—The spring academic calendar has changed. 2021 for Mississippi State, start the semester on time. but ended immediately as the university continues to implement health and safety measures in response to COVID-19.
The spring 2021 retention semester follows a similar process this fall and meets deadlines set by the Mississippi Board of Trustees for Institutions of Higher Education.

Teaching begins in January. 6 and ends April 19, and spring break is canceled due to illness. This will allow the semester to end a week ahead of schedule. However, in response to the MSU Students' Union's decision to request the Monday after Easter as a day to spend time with family, there will be no classes on April 5. King Jr. Day, and the Friday before Easter, April 2. MSU's commencement will be held on April 29 and the Starkville campus ceremony on April 30.
According to David Shaw, MSU provost and executive vice president, these changes build on the success the university is seeing this semester in reducing the risks associated with the disease.
"These changes help us continue to protect our students and staff throughout a full semester of teaching and learning," Shaw said.

Majoring in psychology, he is a high school graduate, Riley Scholar and recent inductee into the Psi Chi National Honor Society. Martin, who aspires to be a behavioral scientist, was recently accepted into a Masters in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis program at MSU's Starkville campus.

—Tricia LaBiche o , Bachelor's Student in the Business Division. A Riley High School graduate and scholar, LaBiche spent 18 years in nursing before working in her family's jewelry business in the city. Returning to her nursing roots, she later decided to go back to school to study accounting, which had always been her passion.
-Mariam Khmaladze is a graduate student in the Business Division. Khmaladze, an MBA specialist and credit analyst II at Citizens National Bank, worked during the pandemic to become a U.S. citizen and go back to school. As an MSU student, he was recognized as the Most Outstanding Undergraduate Student of 2018, as well as receiving the university's highest award, the State Spirit Award.
-Mari Williams of Hattiesburg, Outstanding High School Student for the Education Division. As a first-generation university graduate, he participated in the Professional Development Program for Teaching Assistants at MSU-. PANTA helped William, a first-grade assistant at Purvis Elementary School, become a licensed teacher and complete his elementary education.

—Morgan Melton of Enterprise, Outstanding Graduate Student in the Education Division. Melton, a trainee counselor, earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from MSU and began working as a therapist this month with The Crossings at Alliance Health Center, a youth treatment center. She and her husband David are the proud parents of an 18-month-old daughter, Noemí.
