University Of Texas Fall 2023 Calendar – The Houston Independent School District Board of Education has approved the proposed 2022-2023 school calendar. which adds an additional spring break in April and moves the last day of the first semester before winter break.
The schedule consists of a one-week Thanksgiving break, a two-week winter break, and a one-week spring break. Students and staff will be closed on Labor Day, MLK Day, Chavez-Huerta Day, and Memorial Day. HISD will also celebrate a fall holiday on October 5 and two spring holidays on April 7 and 21.

The trustees approved a grant from the Texas Education Agency to support high quality after school programs. $882,500 is from Emergency Relief for Elementary and Secondary Schools (ESSER) III funds that will be used to accelerate student learning after COVID-19. The dollars are intended to support three areas: a high-quality after-school workforce, technical assistance in the design and implementation of after-school care, and high-performance teaching in after-school programs.

The trustees approved a $100,000 in-kind donation from Football Foundation USA to M.C. Williams MS. Donations are made through the It's a Game for Everyone Foundation and Safe Places to Play programs. Supplies and materials will include a mini-pitch design, including an LED light pole, game walls, built-in doors, storage areas, seating areas, polycarbonate signage, ADA accessible gates, acrylic mini-pitch surface with game lines and coordinated colors and school logos. .
The board also approved in-kind donations to the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. The church will provide $30,000 worth of materials each to Blackshear ES, Cullen MS, Lawson MS and Yates HS. The purpose of the donation is to fill each school's resource room to help students in need. The donated goods include clothing, toiletries and subway tickets.
