Teachers in education because of their passion for teaching; They are here for students and help them learn!
We are located on the campus of the UNM Center for Health Sciences, nestled between the Sandia Mountains to the east and the Rio Grande Valley to the west. Northern New Mexico is a high desert (Albuquerque is 5,000 feet above sea level), which offers beautiful weather all year round. This is the only place in the world where you can ski in the mountains in the morning and bike shorts in the valley in the afternoon. This is a truly unique place for outdoor enthusiasts.

We are committed to student-centred learning and have many non-traditional ways to learn, including: a 2-week faculty-led clinical experience abroad; the Rehabilitation, Exercise, and Public Health (REACH) service learning lab, where students can gain real-world clinical experience from the first semester of the program; and simulated patient laboratories to address clinical skill development in a realistic environment. In addition, we offer complete anatomical dissection in our state-of-the-art gross anatomy lab.
Other highlights of our program include our Motion Analysis Lab, which we use for teaching, research, and clinical gait analysis. Our research efforts have grown significantly in recent years with active collaborations in exercise physiology, exercise training, and engineering. We've also partnered with the North Campus Fitness Center, where students are paired with PT instructors on several Friday evenings to develop a personalized fitness program for UNM employees.
Overall, we strive to provide creative ways to prepare students for the evolving profession of physical therapy.

If you attend an institution that follows a semester curriculum (4 11-12 week periods annually, fall, winter, spring, and summer), then you must verify that you meet our prerequisite credit requirements at PTCAS. For example: 2 anatomy/physiology classes with lab required every 4 credits. 4 Credits = 6 Credits, so to meet our anatomy/physiology prerequisites, you must take 12 A/P quarter credits. You can do this by taking 3 semesters of sequential A/P classes or 3 semesters of appropriate anatomy/physiology classes for the same 12 semester credits.
Please review the selected prerequisites. We will only accept/overwrite 0.33 credits (3 quarter credits = 2.67 semester credits) for the 3rd quarter credit psychology and statistics prerequisite classes. All other prerequisites must meet semester credit requirements
Please note that most, if not all, of your questions can be answered in one of our counseling sessions. You can suggest a schedule in the Tips tab.
